We know that visiting a new place of worship can be stressful and awkward, so we wanted to share some things to help you feel at home while you visit us.
Those who attend Christ United Church have a variety of ways they dress on Sunday mornings. Jeans are just as prevalent as slacks or skirts. You are welcome to wear what you like!
We have a large parking lot behind our building with plenty of accessible spaces near the entrances.
As you come toward the sanctuary most Sunday mornings, you’ll meet one of our greeters – they are happy to help you get comfortable, answer any questions, and provide you with one of our handmade visitor bags! We usually also have several folks from our congregation who will be in the hallway having conversations with one another – feel free to introduce yourself if you’re comfortable!
Once you enter the sanctuary, feel free to sit wherever you are comfortable – if you have any prayer requests, we have cards that you can fill out and place in the basket right at the entry to the sanctuary. As worship is about to start, you will hear some music inviting us into the space together.
Our Sunday gatherings include a welcome, songs – both instrumental and vocal, responsive readings, a time to greet one another, prayers – silent and spoken out loud, a reading, a message, an opportunity to give, a closing blessing and sometimes communion. Our worship style is mostly traditional with organ, piano, and choir, but we also have a brass ensemble, a baroque ensemble, and a contemporary worship band that play occasionally.
You are invited to participate in all of it or none of it as your comfort level allows. Our hope is you will enjoy your experience and find it meaningful!
There is usually some music after the blessing at the end of the service. Some folks in our congregation like to stay through the end of the music, while others will get up and move down to our Friendship Hall to get a cup of coffee and continue in fellowship and conversation. Some folks in our congregation will want to come over and introduce themselves and get to know you better – we’d be very happy to have you join us for coffee and fellowship after worship!
At Christ United, children are an important and valued part of our community – there is a pew with some extra space for wiggling toward the center of the sanctuary. We keep it well supplied with coloring sheets, puzzles, and other quiet activities for children, and we have several members who enjoy sitting with our kids and helping them feel comfortable during the service!
When you donate to Christ United Church, you contribute to our mission of providing a safe, inclusive space and essential support for our community. Together, we can make a lasting impact.
