   Bryan Bowser, Director of Music 

Bryan Bowser previously served as Minister of Music for First Congregational United Church of Christ, Berea for 17 years. He is also the Program Director for Arts Management & Entrepreneurship and Assistant Professor at the Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music; he was Associate Director of the Conservatory for External Affairs at BW previously. Bowser spent three seasons as Director of Operations and Development with Lyric Opera Cleveland before returning to his alma mater Baldwin Wallace as Director of the Conservatory Outreach Department. He has been seen in many local theaters, colleges and universities as a music director and conductor. Bowser is president of the board for the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland, an advisory board member of Brecksville Theater on the Square and previous Chair of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts’ Central Great Lakes Region. He holds an M.B.A. in Entrepreneurship and B.M.E. from BW. He has been invited to present at numerous professional meetings including those of the College Music Society, National Association of Schools of Music, National Guild for Community Arts Education and Ohio Music Teachers Association. Bryan leads the Christ United Church Adult Choir and oversees the entire music ministry of the church.
   Janet Winzenburger, Associate Director of Music

Janet Winzenburger is the former Director of Music for St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church where for 20 years she directed the Chancel Choir, various children and youth choirs, and instrumental groups. In the fall of 2014, she started JuBELLation Ringers, an intergenerational group of bell ringers. Prior to her work at St. Andrew’s, she was active as chorister and director in various Methodist and Lutheran congregations in Iowa, South Dakota, Pennsylvania and here in the Cleveland area. Janet recently retired as music librarian at the Cleveland Institute of Music (25 years). She also directed the Baldwin Wallace University Collegium Musicum (Early Music Ensemble) for 48 years. She strongly agrees that “When in our music God is is as the whole creation cried; Alleluia!” (PH 264)
   James Alfieri, Organist

James Alfieri comes to us from Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Parma, OH, where he has served for 11 years as Director of Music and Organist. James received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Geneva College and a Master of Sacred Music degree from the Graduate Theological Foundation.
As a church musician, he has served the United Methodist, Baptist, Christian and Missionary Alliance, United Church of Christ and Lutheran congregations. He is an active member of the American Guild of Organists, the National Association of Church Musicians, the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, The Organ Historical Society and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

   Betsy Clark, Office Manager

Betsy Clark was the Church Office Manager of the former First Congregational UCC beginning March of 2005. She now begins a new adventure with Christ United Church in the same position. Hers is the first voice and face you will encounter when calling or visiting the church office. A magna cum laude graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College (now Baldwin Wallace University), she holds a B.A. degree in Music and a business minor. Although music is now mostly a hobby, Betsy enjoys singing and playing piano and does both occasionally at Southwest Unitarian Universalist Church where she and Bernie, her partner who she believes is her happily ever after, are members. Betsy raised her two children in Berea, OH. Taylor is a 2014 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Allegheny College and currently serves as Wellness Program Coordinator in the Environmental Science Department at the College and Nick is a 2014 Miami University, Oxford graduate in Interactive Media Studies who is also a 2013 graduate of Berea High School, the last ever graduating class of that high school.
